Obituary of Douglas Robert Blair
Doug passed away peacefully on September 9, 2023 at the Ottawa Heart Institute at the age of 91. He was born on May 5, 1932 in Ottawa to Gwendalyn and Robert Blair.
He is survived by his wife Christina and three children Jill Johnson (Wayne), Wendy Langlands (John), Jeff Blair (Paula), and six grandchildren. Doug was brother to Bernard Blair (Helen) but was predeceased by his brother Ralph Blair and sister Margaret Blair.
Graduating with a Master in Theology from McGill University in 1957, Doug was ordained as a United Church Minister and began his outreach to many around him. Beginning his ministry in remote locations in northern Quebec before moving to eastern Ontario then joining the Canadian Forces in 1967 as an Army Chaplain. He served the forces overseas as well as locations spanning from the Maritimes to the Prairies including a UN Peacekeeping tour in Egypt. Upon his retirement from the CF Doug continued his ministry to serve the people of Athens and Addison until his retirement. He continued to provide support, visiting those in need as well as new couples embarking on the journey of matrimony.
Driven by fitness from an early age Doug could always be found near a gym, tennis court or just floating peacefully in the pool at the Brockville YMCA. In keeping with Doug’s wishes there will not be a celebration of life service. The family would greatly appreciate donations to the Senior Support Services (CPHC) Senior Meal Program to continue the great care they provide to the local community.
