I’m so sorry to hear this. I’d drive by Lyle and give him a paper and he’d be there keeping the sidewalks clean no matter the weather. A few times he would bake me treats and when I would see him, he’d talk about as much as he could in the few moments we’d see each other and he’d always ask for a hug. Even if he was busy with another neighbour, he would always wave. He took care of my sister in law’s place on the corner until she died and he cried with me when I told him. His stories of being a tough guy, and his daughters and his cats and his wife. I only had surface conversations with him but I knew he missed his wife like crazy. I had to look up his name when I saw the first sale sign and I am saddened to see this. My condolences to his loved ones.

Our condolences to the Place and Latimer Family. Lyall was a great friend and help to my mom and dad for over 40 years. He often said he thought of my dad as father. They were 7 years apart in age but Lyall had the determination of a much younger man. He was the energizer bunny when it came to shovelling and lawn mowing. I would hear him often shovelling at 4 am and I'm sure, in summer, he would have been mowing at that hour if he could have done it quietly! He always had a story or insight to share as well as the never ending doggy treats that he would bring over for my pups. I can't forget to mention his beautiful flower boxes on the front porch every summer! Lyall was an icon on King St West and will be missed by many. Peggy (Kercher) Mathieson and family

Lyle, couldn't walk pass your home without stopping for a friendly chat no matter how pressed for time one was. Our dogs would, out of habit, turn their heads to see if you were sitting on your porch so they could get a treat. Your love of community was evident in the way you were always willing to give a helping hand. Rest in Peace Lyle.

Lyle, you will be so missed by all the dogs and their owners in the West End! We will also remember you for all your kindnesses to your many grateful neighbours -- so many lawns mowed and driveways shovelled! I was sorry to hear about Lyle's passing. I had many chats with him while out walking my dog. Rusty knew Lyle's house and always wanted to turn left at King St. in order to get a treat from Lyle. He was a sweet man!
