Earl Millar Easter, 87, of Charleston Lake, passed away on October 18th, 2021 at Maple View Lodge in Athens, Ontario. Earl is survived by his daughter Jill (Kirby) of Oakville and son Shane (Kathy) of Brockville. Also survived by his grandchildren Adam, Carly, Erin, Dax, Ruby and his four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Danny. Earl is also survived by his close friend Winnona Ireland whom he loved to share time with – especially to go out dancing. She was an angel in Earl’s last years. Earl was born in his grandparents’ farmhouse on the outskirts of Prescott, Ontario to Helen and Phillip Easter on April 24th, 1934. Their farm was also the source of his fondest childhood recollections - living there under his grandmother’s care until his father returned from his WWII service. His formative years were also spent keenly observing the customers at his father’s barbershop in Prescott. After graduating High School from BCI, Earl was employed for 41 years with the Brockville Public Utilities until his retirement in 1994. Raising his family in Brockville, Earl enjoyed participating and later volunteering in numerous local sports. Earl was the manager for many of his two son’s local hockey teams and served as President of the Brockville Minor Hockey Association. Earl’s love affair with Charleston Lake began in the 60’s when the family bought a little cottage on ‘Big Waters’ next door to our dear friends the Blinns. Life at the lake was so appealing to Earl that he moved there permanently and built the log home of his dreams. Any pedestrians or boaters who slowed down (intentionally or not) to look at the cabin were immediately shepherded inside for ‘the grand tour’. Growing up during the depression may have pre-destined him to be a hoarder but being located less than a mile from the township dump sealed his fate. This led to many ‘duming’ trips where he came back with more than he had left with. He had a particularly keen eye for old, discarded farm tools or implements that he said could be used as a hat rack or at the very least fashioned into some type of house lamp. During his last years at the lake Earl also became some sort of squirrel whisperer. He managed to transform the cabin - with its wrap around deck and overhanging roof - into a giant birdfeeder of sorts. A thick blanket of sunflower seeds and squirrels usually concealed the decking. Earl also had a kind soul and would always lend a hand or tool to anyone who asked. He enjoyed taking us out to breakfast and always relished waiting until the server would ask him how he wanted his eggs, and he would deadpan and say ‘snotty’. That was Earl. At his request Earl did not want a service after cremation but instead to be taken by his children for a nice boat ride to a few of his favorite fishing spots out at Charleston. He would, however, certainly want you to raise a few glasses in his honour and remember some good times you shared.
