After a courageous battle with cancer, David died peacefully on Tuesday June 30, 2009 at the Brockville General Hospital Charles Street Site surrounded by his family and friends at age 62. Beloved husband of Mary (O'Brien) Birrell and brother of Donald Birrell of Ottawa. Also survived by his many brothers and sisters-in-law Betty Donaldson (Donald), Martin O'Brien (Cheryl), Barbara O'Brien, Bill O'Brien (Irene), Gerard O'Brien (Sharyn), Joseph O'Brien (Barb) and Bernard O'Brien (Liz), many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cherished friends Kim and Catherine Clarey and Tony Abreu. Predeceased by his parents Archie and Eileen (Warren) Birrell, his uncle Donald Warren, his father and mother-in-law Bernard and Catherine (Emburgh) O'Brien, his brother-in-law Emburgh O'Brien and sisters-in-law Madge Morrison and Gaby O'Brien. Family and friends may call at the Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday July 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. In memoriams to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association or the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
