Marion Bowman

Obituary of Marion Ellen Bowman

It is with heavy hearts and the joy of a long life, that the family of Marion Bowman announces her passing at St. Lawrence Lodge on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the age of 99.

Marion was born on May 31, 1925 to Ed and Hattie (Bolton) Greaves, and raised on the family farm in Jellyby, with her brother Harry and sister Helen, both of whom predeceased her.  After graduating from North Augusta Continuation School, she worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in North Augusta for almost 25 years, where she took pride in knowing the customers by name.  In 1944 she married Burton (Bud) Bowman.  In 1977 she started part-time at St. Lawrence College in Brockville, retiring after 13 years as receptionist and bookstore clerk.

Marion was a faithful and steadfast member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, North Augusta and was active in all facets of church life including Lay Reader for 10 years.  Marion and Bud enjoyed living on their farm in North Augusta, where they knew everyone in the Village. Marion was an avid euchre player and a very good cook. She could bake a chicken a hundred different ways, and she made the best apple pies and homemade burgers. Always a classy dresser, often she could be found in the barnyard, wearing her Sunday best with rubber boots, either feeding the chickens or saving her grandkids from an attacking rooster.  Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed gatherings where should could spend time with “the young people”.

In 1999, because of Bud's declining health, they moved to Brockville.  She became a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church where she made many new and dear friends who so generously would give her rides to church and other social activities.   Marion immensely enjoyed the camaraderie of the book club.  Those faithful ladies continued to visit her regularly until her last days.

Marion was the beloved wife of the late Burton Bowman for over 60 years.  Dear mother to Joy Jones, Barry (Karen),  loving grandmother to Holly Jones Finucan, Brian Jones (Johanna) and proud Nanny BowBow to Matthew (Meg), Andrew, Sarah and Charlotte; aunt to nieces and nephews and dear friend to many.  Predeceased by son-in-law Bob Jones, and niece Carrie Hands.

In memory of Marion, donations to St. Peter's Church Cemetery Fund, North Augusta or St. Paul's Church, Brockville, will be gratefully acknowledged.
