Obituary of Kenneth Edgar Baker

In Loving Memory of Kenneth Edgar Baker

Kenneth Edgar Baker, age 87, of Toledo, Ontario, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Kenneth, known to many as “Ken,” was a devoted husband to Eileen Ruth Baker (née Hughes) and a loving father to his daughters, Judy Elizabeth Readwin (Tony Readwin), Cindy Lee Baker (Dan Barill), and Mary Lynn Baker (John Bruce). He was a proud grandfather to Fletcher Wehmeyer (Christina), Jamie Barill, Sydney Wehmeyer (Clinton Coates), Kerry Readwin, Hannah McGillivary (Justin), and Michael Readwin. Ken also looked forward to welcoming his first great-grandchild, Baby “M,” whose real name Ken knew but took with him as a cherished secret.

Ken was a beloved brother to Beulah Bond (Mort) and Audrey Timlin (Wally) and was predeceased by his parents John 'Jack' Baker and Mary Elizabeth 'Bessie' Baker (née Bellamy), his step-mother Wilma Baker and brothers Garnet (survived by wife Lorna) and Arnold (survived by wife Anne). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.

Ken dedicated much of his life to his community. He served as a firefighter for 36 years, ultimately as Fire Chief for Kitley Township. His commitment extended beyond firefighting as he was also a Mason for 63 years and a Shriner, known fondly as “Smokee” the clown. In his professional life, Ken worked at Automatic Electric and Microtel in Brockville before taking over the family farm.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Elizabethtown-Kitley Fire Station 3, located at 410 County Road 29 in Toledo. Following the service, interment will take place at the St. Andrews United Church Cemetery, with light refreshments served at the church afterward.

Ken will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, and his lasting impact on those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Andrews United Church for the Cemetery.
