Ed is also survived by his brothers and sister: John Clarey (Vivian), Frank Clarey (Vickie), Ann Oosterhof (Gord) and Tim Clarey (Jocelyn), in addition to his sister-in-law Jeanine Clarey, brother-in-law Neil Muchmore (Ann) and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Burke Clarey, a son James Burke Clarey, at birth, and his older brother, Paul Clarey.

Ed was an avid hockey and baseball player growing up. He was on skates at the age of four and played for the Cobourg Cougars throughout his youth and teen years. Ed then moved to Cornwall, Ontario at the age of 16 boarding with the Charlebois Family to continue his hockey career with the Cornwall Mavericks and Cornwall Royals of the Quebec Major Junior League.

Ed was drafted in 1976 by the Montreal Canadiens in Round 4 of the NHL Draft as the 72nd pick. He spent the next year with the Montreal Canadiens affliate team and then he joined the Brockville POlice Service where he spent his entire 31year career, retiring on Aug 29th, 2008. Ed's joys in life were helping and working with families, colleagues and community members. He is remembered fondly as always being "the Ultimate One".

Despite numerous health concerns over the last number of years, he maintained focus on his family as that was the most important aspect of his life. Ed fought to the very end with all his will, power and strength. Thank you to all the wonderful care and support that Ed had received over the last years.
