Celebration of Brian's Life
Obituary of Brian Horace Merrill
Merrill, Brian H.
August 11, 1942-June 30, 2024
After Brian’s several battles with cancer, we’re deeply saddened to announce that his body has ‘officially tapped out’, at Ruddy Shenkman Hospice, surrounded by the love and comfort of family.
He will be sorrowfully missed by partner Margaret, son Michael (Stephanie), daughter Carrie (Derrick), stepsons Drew (Maria) and Matt (Elaine), as well as grandchildren Zachary, Taylor, Lucas, Raelyn, Amelia, Nico and Julian and many lifelong friends. He is also survived by sisters Dianne and Nancy (Barry) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Brian spent most of his career as chief technologist in cytology at the Civic Hospital. His work was rewarding but nothing made him happier than the great outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, gardening or puttering at the cottage. He was above all a people person and loved lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
In the end Brian had few regrets. He reflected on a life time of hunting and fishing trips, winters down south and vacations in Canada and around the world. Most of all he cherished time spent with family and friends. He always had a zest for life and a cheerful sense of optimism. Forever loved, never forgotten.
The family is very grateful for the care and compassion shown by Dr. Jonker, Nurse June and the staff at the Ruddy Shenkman hospice. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Brian, please consider the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to drop in for a celebration of Brian’s life at the Brittania Yacht Club, 2777 Cassels St., on Monday, July 29 from 5-8 p.m.
