Obituary of William James Heasley

Peacefully entered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care on Wednesday December 27th, 2023. Bill Heasley of Brockville aged 96 years. Beloved husband of 71 years to Dorothy M. (Commerford) Heasley. Loving father of Debbie Duchene of Brockville, Susan Clark (the late David) of Waubaushene, Peter Heasley (Kathie) of Mallorytown, Mary Anne Thomas (Tim) of Peterborough and the late Richard Heasley. He was the proud grandfather to Patricia White (Greg), Andrew Silvey (Celeste), Michael Silvey (deceased), Tyler Thomas (Danielle), Justin Thomas (Sandy), Madison Thomas, Julian Duchene (Kaleigh), Nicholas Duchene and Khrystyne Heasley, and great-grandchildren Kaleb and Jacob Duchene, Avery and Gavin White, Austin and Aurora Silvey and Hank Thomas. Dear son of the late Harold and Mary Anne (McGowan) Heasley; and brother of the late Marjorie Moore and George Heasley. Also missed by many nieces, nephews and friends

He was a pillar in the Brockville community, the founder of Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen, co-founder of the Palliative Care Telethon, clergy member of the Knights of Columbus and in his early years, a boy scout leader and a minor hockey coach. He was recognized in 1999 with the Peacemaker medal from YMCA Canada as well as many certificates of appreciation from the City of Brockville, Knights of Columbus, St. John Bosco school and Phillips Cables where he was recognized for 40 years of service. He had a strong catholic faith and at the young age of 67 after many years of schooling as part of the Kingston Diaconate program he was ordained as a Deacon. He served as a Deacon at St. John Bosco church for over 25 years. He was truly a disciple on earth spending time in India with the Save a Family plan organization where he had the privilege of meeting Mother Theresa. He had a special place in his heart for his mother’s homeland Ireland and all his Irish relatives.  He always celebrated St Patrick’s Day in true green style.

Most of all he was a devoted family man and enjoyed being surrounded by his loved ones.
