Obituary of Mike Baker

Passed away with family by his side at the Brockville General Hospital on Saturday April 1, 2023. Michael Shawn Baker of Brockville aged 57 years. Beloved husband of Christine (Kempson) Baker. Loving father of Aidan and Carson. Dear son of Ann and the late Arnold Baker. Mike is survived by his brother Randy (Jennifer), nephews Jack and Kyle and brothers Tim (Debbie), Terry, Jeff (Karen), and Kevin. He will also be missed by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike was a well-known public-school teacher in Brockville and area, remaining committed to the education of youth throughout his career and onward as an active member of the local teachers’ union. In addition to his teaching career, he was an enthusiastic coach of Little League Baseball and Lyn Softball, spending decades on the field teaching players the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

Mike was quick-witted and funny; known particularly for his dry sense of humour. He could name any 80’s song within the first five notes, and childhood friends who were able to visit him in hospital were amazed by his great memory of their youthful antics.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at the Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Saturday April 22, 2023 from 1 – 5 p.m.  Words of remembrance will be spoken at 4 p.m. In memory of Mike, donations to the Leeds and Grenville SPCA, Brockville Little League, BDHF Palliative Care, St. James Masonic Lodge or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
