It was a sad day indeed to learn Donn had passed away. Like Donn, through my association with the Brockville Rifles Infantry and band I knew a great number of WWII Veterans dating back over 50 years and many of them from Donn’s regiment the SD&G highlanders. As been stated many times “They were the greatest generation.” They came back from the war and continued their lives reintegrating themselves into the community and volunteering their time to many organizations and good causes. Donn was certainly one of those people. Slowly over the years they have all passed on and Donn was the last of my old WWII friends. I very much enjoyed the times we chatted especially on Remembrance Day when we’d sit and enjoyed each-others company at the Brockville Legion. He was very proud of his Metis heritage proudly wearing his buckskin jacket on Remembrance Day along with the chest full of medals he received over the course of his military career. I saw Donn last summer outside the Brockville Tunnel and that was the last chat we had. He will always be remembered and never far from my thoughts. I’m certain he is in that great place now enjoying his time being reunited with members from his old regiment. God Bless you Donn.

Donn was the keeper of the Fowler family history, and although I never met him, I have great respect for the research he did on my grandmother’s family. As recently as a year ago we emailed one another. The Fowler Clann has lost a wonderful historian. RIP. Bill McKinlay

Donn was part of the 2015 commemorative journey to the Netherlands that marked that country's 70th anniversary of liberation. I had accompanied my late Father, Basil Brosso on that same journey and it was there that we met Donn. He had served in the same regiment as my late Uncle, Leon Brosso.
Donn spoke eloquently at the services attended by the many veterans who were on that trip. Our sincere condolences to Donn's family and many friends.

Neville and I met Donn (and Eva) shortly after we came to Brockville. He was always ready for a discussion on something that was interesting him at the moment. Donn was extremely proud of Malcolm no matter what. Donn left a mark on Brockville. Our condolences to the family.

My deepest sympathy to the Fowler family. I admired Donn for his musical and acting talents , an all round great guy. Even in his later years and over thousands of miles, the camera caught him in a smart salute during the filmed Vimy Memorial Service which he and other Canadian Vets attended., an image that has stayed with me. Rest In Peace, Donn. Pat Marshall

Although I had met Donn it wasn’t until we shared the stage in the Wizard of Oz did I really get to know him. He played the Tinman, I played the Scarecrow. As Michael Trussell mentioned it is true about his strong tenor voice. I recall in the 1979 Operatic show, Guy’s and Dolls I kept close to Donn in the Luck be a Lady song because I would drift and end up singing with the Sopranos. I found him very knowledgeable and we shared similar political views. Our last close connection was with the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Donn you will be missed but fondly remembered. Condolences to Malcom and family. Peter and Marie Galvin.

Donn was a man with a brilliant mind and a kind heart. He could talk for hours about his heritage and hold your interest to the end. He had a sense of humour and a smile for everyone. Over the years Donn touched many lives. He will be remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
I will miss you my Friend.

My condolences to the family. From a young girl, I've always known him as "Uncle" Don. Because he and my Dad, Hap Wingfield were friends due I believe to their military background and affiliation with the Brockville Armories. I have run into him many times over the last few years and shared memories. He was a kind and caring gentleman.
