Obituary of John Arnold MacDonald
MacDONALD, John A.
John “Bud” MacDonald passed away on August 12, 2021, at the age of 84 at the Brockville General Hospital in Brockville, Ontario.
Bud was born April 17, 1937, to parents Charles and Alfreda (Dupuis) MacDonald of Cornwall, Ontario. He graduated from CCVS High School in Cornwall in 1956.
He married his beautiful bride Bernice DeRochie of Summerstown, Ontario on June 20, 1959.
Bud joined Bell Canada Telecommunications in 1956 and worked several years in Cornwall, Montreal, and Ottawa before being transferred to Bell Canada International in Saudi Arabia in 1978. There he worked in the major cities of Al Khobar, Dammam and Riyadh until the project was completed in 1989, retiring shortly after that at the age of 52. Bud and his family enjoyed 11 years of adventure and extensive travel while meeting hundreds of wonderful people along the way. These years were a journey with many fond memories.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman, spending many volunteer hours on the ski hills north of Ottawa and endless days on the St. Lawrence Seaway. Fishing, hunting, boating, and snow and water sports were his favorite pastimes. Friendly and social, Bud was a wonderful joker and storyteller. He will be remembered for his love of family and good friends, 5 o’clock Muddy Duck drinks, adventures in Alaska, tinkering with motors and all things broken, and never missing a hockey game on television.
He leaves in mourning his beloved wife Bernice and four wonderful children, daughters Penny Sirjane (Jeffrey) and Donna Richardson (Mark) both of Vermont, son Kenneth (Hilary) of Alaska, and daughter Jody MacDonald of Hailey, Idaho, and one sister, Agnes Petrie (John (Sonny), deceased) of Bainsville, Ontario.
He also leaves behind grandchildren; Zoe Sirjane, Marley Sirjane (deceased), Ellen Richardson, Anna Richardson, Lindsay Richardson, Thomas MacDonald, and Emily MacDonald.
In memory of Bud, donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence may be made online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com. A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
