Condolence
Dear Family and Friends,
We lost a true disciple of Christ. Fr. Brian was a dedicated missionary when serving the population of St. Raphael Centre. We so appreciated his presence and pastoral wisdom. May he rest in peace in the loving arms of Jesus.
Norm Hannan
former principal of St. Raphael Centre

I met Brian in 1965 at the Catholic Welfare Bureau (now Batshaw) in Montreal, QC. He married my husband Barry and I in April 1970 at St. Brendan's Church in Rosemount (Montreal).
He was a very caring man who gave with all his heart to those in need. He is now safe in the arms of his Lord & Saviour whom he served all his life.

Father Brian was a kind, considerate and caring priest. In his quiet way he had a great influence on many individuals. He never hesitated to be at someone's side during the hard times. When he moved to Hawksbury and then to Brockville, he thought nothing of it to drive to and from Montreal to be present. He loved his lotto tickets and having a good time with friends. I was fortunate to be at his twenty-fifth and fiftieth celebrations to the priesthood. Thanks Brian for the good times and for being there in the difficult times. You were a true friend and you will be missed, but not forgotten. Keep an eye on us, Father Brian, we still need your help.

My deepest & most heartfelt condolences to Brian's Family & Friends,
I became a friend to Jim, Yvette, Lucille & Brian in 1975. Every Friday, from 1975-1984, I was invited for a fish dinner with the Martin Family. Yvette, Brian's Mother, would always make me bran muffins to take home. She was the kindest woman & loved me as a daughter. She died in 1984 & I moved to Toronto. Brian & I kept in touch & he was always there for me with his support, his faith & his sense of humour. I still have his last voicemail message on my phone from a few weeks ago where he signs off "be good." I have played it back the last few days so I can hear his voice.
I will always remember 2 things he taught me when I was grieving the death of those close to me: that my tears were beautiful because I loved and that we would meet our loved ones again as "“In my Father's House, there are many rooms.” [Jn. 14:2]".
So, dear Brian: Ar dheis De go rabid a anam dilis. (May his faithful soul be @ the right hand of God)
Until we meet again in Our Father's House...
Love,
Colleen

He was the priest that married me in 2008 and we have talked almost every week He thought me humility and swore at me a lot (deserved). I’m going to miss his laugh and his guidance. Heart broken

Brian & Norman met at Loyola in 1959 in their 1st year. They
shared many adventures over the years including trips to the USA, long debates on how to solve the world's problems, volunteering with those less fortunate as well as those late night rides on the back of his motor scooter!
Eventhough we moved to Ontario every family visit to Montreal included time spent with Brian, Jim, his mother & aunt.
We will miss all the phone calls (even the most recent one a few weeks ago) , his dry sense of humor reminiscing about old friends.
We are sad, we will miss Brian but we are grateful for his friendship and all the wonderful memories.
Norman & Licia Vreugde

Im memory of a great friend Father Martin. I spent a great deal of time with him during 3 years at Lester B. Pearson high school being part of the Pastoral committee and we remained friends. He was always there for me during my younger years helping me with life and introducing me to the world. He introduced me to a life long love of volunteering and charity like making meals at Benedict Labre House and visiting senior centers. Going to the school retreats he organized is still some of the best and fun experiences I've ever had. He also officiated my wedding, such a special and memorable day. I truly count him as one of my best friends. He will be missed, we has a great priest and an even better person. We will miss you so much. RIP Brian, we love you.
