Despite knowing you from my very first year of teaching, at Osgoode Township High in 1975, to the many years later we were both at South Carleton, I never had the privilege of knowing Joan. But you always spoke highly of her and were always so animated when talking of your life together, and with your kids, that I know this loss will be felt keenly. I am so sorry that she has been taken so early. My very deepest sympathies to you Pat, and to your children and grandkids.

It is with the deepest heartfelt emotion that Heather and I recieved the news that Joan had passed away. We offer our sincerest sympathy and condolences to Pat, Paul, Joe and their families at this time of their great loss. Even though we cannot be with you at this time, we want you to know that we are in thoughts, spirit and prayers.
There are so many wonderful memories from our youth that have been crystallized in one's memory bank that still bring joy, laughter and idyllic peaceful moments to the challenging present. Summers at Riverside Park, playing ball, racing, swimming and running the boom logs to the second pier, where time stood as we watched the pickerel and pike frolicking in the blue clear waters of the Ottawa River. And yes, Joan even ran the rolling logs as we played tag, and she was very good at it as she was in all the games we played. It was a proud moment for me when I was asked to be part of the wedding party at Pat and Joan's wedding. "A match made in heaven", many stated on that wedding day,.......and the last 57 years has attested how true that statement proved to be... God has brought back one of his Angels. Joan may have left us for a while, but never forgotten as we all hold cherished memories.

Pat, Paul & Joe. It was with great sadness that I read of Joan’s passing. I have many good memories of the wonderful trips we shared travelling across Canada and to the Islands during March Breaks. Although it’s been many years since we have seen each other I can still remember Joan’s laugh and great sense of humour. Memories of good times help get through the hard times.
The photo below was taken during one of our trips to the Bahamas.
Thinking of you all at this time.

My condolences to Pat, Paul and Joe during this difficult time. Our families spent many summers camping across Canada together in the 70’s. I have fond memories of my parents with Joan and Pat during these trips. I was extremely fortunate to also have Mrs. Brophy as my grade eight teacher at St Leonard’s in Manotick. She was one of the best teachers I ever had and I am positive I was one of many who felt that way. I will always remember Joan with great fondness as she, Pat, Paul and Joe are part of some of my best childhood memories. Rest In Peace, Mrs. Brophy.

I was fortunate to spend many summers camping with Joan and her family, and have great memories of those times. She was a terrific mother to her boys, and loving wife to Pat. Joan was highly respected by her students and deservedly so. I see many notes from former students whom she obviously made a lasting impression on. My heart goes out to Joe, Paul, and Pat at this difficult milestone in their lives. Take solace in the fact that she lived a good life and touched so many people during her time.

Pat, Paul and Joe, Mrs Brophy was also my Gr 8 teacher at St Leonard School. She was a very respected teacher, that had the undivided attention of everyone in class and if she didn't, she would most definitely get it. She was tough but she was fair and I'm honoured that I had her as a teacher back then. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Brophy family, Joan will be missed by the many people that crossed paths with her. May she rest in peace.

At almost 60 years old now I can remember three teachers in my educational school years that left a positive impact on my life, and Mrs. Brophy was one of them. Her strict but caring demeanor directed us to "stand up and pay attention", even when Mike Doyle and Liam Maguire sent spit balls my way in grade 8 at St. Leonards School. Our home on the south end of the island in Manotick was down the street from the Brophy's house and to this day when I pass by her old house I will say, "that is where my grade 8 teacher lived". Thank you Mrs. Brophy for your dedication and passion you had for every single student that has had the pleasure and opportunity to have you as their teacher at St.Leonards and St. Marks in Manotick.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Brophy was an amazing teacher. I remember her telling us in 1993 that we had to write correctly, until we had our PhD. Then we could write however we wanted to. I called her in 2005 to ask if I could write however I wanted to, now that I had my PhD. She laughed and asked "Is it a PhD in English"? When I said no, history, she laughed again and said "Then no." She was a great lady! I will always remember her fondly for being tough but caring and having a great sense of humour. A fantastic role model.

I was lucky enough to have Mrs Brophy as a grade 6, 7,10,11and 12 teacher. She pushed me to my potential yet was caring. Once I was falling asleep in class in grade 11 and she kept me after class. She was concerned that I was doing drugs/drinking. I replied I was working a few midnight shifts throughout the week. She’s one reason I’m a teacher today. God bless.
