Dear Peter and Kathryn:
I am very very sorry for your loss. I am so incredibly saddened to hear of Joy's passing. She was my teacher about 15 years ago, along with Gord Mitchell, when I took the Educational Assistant program in Brockville. I loved my days with Joy, as a teacher and a friend, and I was so blessed to share that time with her. It was an incredible honour. She was a very very special lady who was so beautiful..equally on the inside and the outside. God bless both of you during this time. She will forever hold a special place in my heart.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Dionne Fournier

Dear Peter and Kathryn
There is nobody quite like Joy. I found a very insightful definition of the name Joy that so suits the Joy that we came to know and love. "Full of charm and vigour, incredibly intelligent, give everything to those most important to her, infectious smile...". Our condolences to you both and as time passes, may the memories of Joy outweigh the heaviness in your hearts.

Dear Peter and Katheryn,
I was so sorry to hear that Joy had passed away. I will always remember how encouraging she was at music practice, having all of us over and letting us take over the house. I think of her often as I try to instill that same love of music that she fostered in us, in my own children. I also remember with fondness the Christmases when several of our families gathered together to celebrate.
You are all in my prayers. I will light a candle and pray at 2pm tomorrow, as you celebrate her life.
Sincerely,
Ann Webber

Dear Peter and Kathryn,
We were so sorry to learn of Joy's tragic passing. We will always remember the passion she brought to her work with the youth at St. Mary's and her music. However, more importantly for us was her dedication as a Snowhawker. Christopher's experience with the Snowhawks instilled a love for skiing that he is now passing on to his children.
With our love and prayers,
Tom and Helen Stolfa

I remember Joy's kind, loving and supportive nature as she taught in the Youth Group at St. Mary's. She listened to us and nurtured our spirits. Her passion for music filled the house when she came over for music practice with the church music group.
I am very sorry to learn of Joy's passing and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Peter & Kathryn,
When Joy took the time to talk with people - and she always took the time to talk with people - their thoughts and feelings flowed. Joy listened so carefully... This is partly why Joy had so many warm and meaningful relationships, and we are so lucky to have counted ourselves among them.
Snowhawks Ski School was lucky as well, and so much the better for Joy's contributions, going back nearly 30 years. As a chaperon, Joy served as a "mom" to so many children. As a Wednesday adult program participant, Joy was more "host" than "member", always making new members feel welcome and included. Joy shared your home and hers, bringing together instructors and chaperons regularly, making us feel more like family than colleagues. And as a fellow traveler, exploring ski resorts across the continent, Joy shared her passion for both skiing and good company.
Joy lived her life with grace and caring, with curiosity and conviction. She will remain always in our hearts...

I am so sorry for your loss.
I only just met Joy this past winter when I joined the Snowhawks. She was the first person to introduce herself and make me feel included and welcome on the bus. I very much enjoyed getting to know her during the ski season and on both of the winter getaways. She was a very kind and beautiful person who will be missed.
I'm sure it meant a lot to her that she was able to enjoy the Banff trip and the last few months of spring with her daughter Kathryn. She was very proud of her and shared this with me and likely many others.
God bless you. My thoughts and prayers are with you Peter & Kathryn.

A long time family friend & neighbour at Fulford Pt. ; Joy Rutherford. We are all so saddened with her passing.
Joy's passion & positivity for life shone thru immeasurably!
Her enthusiasm for music & education existed throughout her lifetime.
Joy was the one who introduced the career path of education to me at age 16! I was lucky enough to be one of the educational assistants for a Summer reading program with the Leeds Grenville Board of Education!
Love & light to your soul Joy. I also am keeping Peter, Kathryn, Stewart, Andy & the rest of the family in my thoughts & prayers.

Joy was literally a "Joy" to have at the music school (when she was not away on ski trips!). She definitely had a passion for music, enjoyed her lessons, and loved telling stories of the adventures she had with her unique instrument! Her bright and energetic personality was contagious and touched everyone she worked with and spoke to here at the school. We will miss her a lot!

Dear Kathryn and Peter: My sincere condolences to you at this sorrowful time. I hope the wonderful memories you have of Joy will comfort you. If anyone was aptly named, it was Joy. She was unfailingly cheerful, funny and kind. She was so welcoming and gracious to me on my first bus trip with the ski club and ever afterwards. Always a kind word and a genuine interest in people. I will never forget her.
