I was one of Gary's Brockelle drummers back in the 70s. He was such a mentor and inspiration to me during that time. I just can't tell you how often I have thought of him over the years as I continued my drumming career in pipe bands over the years. I have to tell you a story. Years ago I at a Scottish games here in California and I met some drummers from a Canadian band. I mentioned to them that Gary Allan was my drum instructor and they became very excited because he was so famous in the drumming world. He was such a sweet man, and I'll always remember his goofy smile.
The Brockelle's have a Facebook page and many of us have posted memories and photos of him. You can see them at www.facebook.com/groups/5120918959/

I was one of the many girls at Commonwealth that were welcomed into the Allan home. Part of the invitation to stay over on Friday nights included the privilege of cleaning up the house to Gary's standards on Saturday morning! Our reward was Saturday night burgers and many laughs.
Never one to complain, I remember the endless nights Gary got up with Michael when he experienced his many health issues. This all came so naturally because of his love for his family and his high standard of care for the challenged.
"Phil the Fluter (whatever that means!)" will definitely miss Gary's smile and his gregarious ways. I am sure he has already made a big stir up above and is re-organizing something!

With love and sympathy to all of you. A memory of mine is how Gary was always out working around Mike and Birgitte's house/yard when he and Nancy would visit to Edmonton. Gary extended his help to the neighbours. We much appreciated his helping hand on our property too.
May the joy he brought to all of you give you strength at this time.

I was sorry to hear of the Passing of our other Father Figure! I was one if the 80 Girls in the Brockelles Band and he like Don Shaw were our father figures while away performing away from home. He will. Be sadly missed! He was a true role model and let's be honest We had a Blast there were a lot of girls and I don't know how but he held his composure and Never lost his temper a real gentle man and I for one am glad he was a positive role model in my life! I often think about those days as a Brockelle and its True there never would have been a Brockelles band without Gary and Don so Thanks To Your Family for sharing His Love and Kindness! Dear Nancy & Family,
It was with sadness that I heard of Gary's passing. My deepest sympathies to you Nancy, your children and grandchildren.
I remember fondly the years "the foursome" played golf and Gary's wonderful smile. Each time he entered the clubhouse, he was smiling, joking or laughing about something. His joyful personality was always such a lift, to any day. What a precious gift he had - that he shared with all around him!
Sincerely,
Cathy (Guy) Thomas

The passing of Gary is true a sad day!
It is because of Gary that I have the ability to enjoy the life and job I have today. You see, Gary was my first drum instructor. As a young 6 year old, my dad took me to the Brockvile Pipe Band to learn drumming from Gary. It is only through his talent and ability to teach, as well as his patience and time that I was given the foundation I have to be the drummer I am today.
I joined the Army 30 years ago and to this day I am a Drum Instructor in the Canadian Armed Forces because of what Gary B Allan did for me.
I remeber many nights at the Legion and many nights walking up the street to his house for lessons. (Well of course that was when I wasn't out playing with Mike in the back yard:)
My deepest condolences to the family for your loss.
