Elva Alida Dorie (Knowles) passed away, with her family by her side, on January 19, 2014 at St. Lawrence Lodge at the age of 92 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Dorie and Cecil Gunness who was killed in WWII. She will be sadly missed by her children, Tom (Brenda) of Huntsville, Ron (Heather) of Brockville, Donald of Calgary and her grandchildren, Jennifer Sulan (Dan), Alison Purser (Brody), Brandi Charman (Brian), Matthew Dorie and great grandchildren, Jenna and Jackson Charman, James Sulan. She is survived by her brothers, Lloyd (Madeline) Knowles and Allan (Patricia) Knowles, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Harvey and Irene Knowles and her sister Muriel Cassidy. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jerry Ashe and the many wonderful nurses and staff who cared for Elva at the lodge. At Elva’s request, there will be no visitation with a private grave site service to be held at a future date. In memory of Elva, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
